Our History

Peter Pagonis, owner and manager of Mykonos Grill has long experience in the restaurant business. He started in Montreal, Canada in 1971 and reached the position of assistant chef. Two years later he moved to Long Island, NY where he worked as a waiter while pursuing his college career. Thinking seriously of opening his own business he moved to Northern Virginia in 1975 and received a business degree from GMU a few years later. In 1981 he opened the Four Seasons restaurant, a high volume NY style dinner.

		In 1985 he met Despina. Immediately fell in love and married two years later. Even though they were in love there was a problem, Despina was employed for the Greek embassy and was obligated to return to Greece.
Either Peter had to sell his business and move to Greece or Despina had to start a new career here in America. Despina had worries and the idea of living in America made her very home sick so Peter always finding his way out of an impass came up with the idea of "Bringing Greece to the United States". He promised his wife they would open a Greek restaurant and call it Mykonos, Despina's favorite island. "You will walk into the restaurant and feel like you are actually on the island eating dinner at a little taverna by the water." ..and that's how the first Mykonos opened in Washington DC in April 1990, a few years later Mykonos Grill in Rockville was established. Peter's business skills and Despina's touch of class combined perfectly to create Mykonos Grill, as it is today, with spectacular Greek ambience and high quality food that customers enjoy.
